Defining Terms

What is trauma-informed care?

Trauma-informed care is about protecting dignity before providing service. It is not one, single protocol. It is a posture of humility. It means honoring the nervous system as wise. It means safety through choice, not control. It means asking, “what did you have to do to survive, and what are you still holding?”

What does it mean to be culturally aware?

To be culturally aware means remembering that each person carries a history and a people. It means noticing where power lives in the room. It means I don’t assume that I know what it’s like to be you, but remain curious, open, and reverent toward your experience.

What is a doula?

“Doula” is a Greek word meaning companion, one who walks with and tends at the threshold. I do not use the word doula as a professional title. It is a lineage I serve and the way I try to live:

  • Presence without agenda

  • Willingness to accompany

  • Equanimity in grief, rage, or rupture

  • Creating and guarding sacred space, within and without

More About Sara

Who are you?

I’m a lot of things, but here, I’m an artist and care worker living and practicing trauma-informed massage therapy in Casper, Wyoming.

I like all cats (even the mean ones—they have their reasons), horror movies, good whiskey, and bad puns. When I’m not massaging, I’m probably napping with my cat, Winnifred or watching vintage X-Files and snacking on jalapeno kettle chips.

What is Ritual Massage and how is it different?

Ritual Massage is a trauma-informed approach to massage therapy that prioritizes beauty and care. It is attuned, intentional, and responsive to your nervous system.

This work isn’t about fixing or treating the body. It is a being-with, not a working-on. A ceremony of presence for deep relaxation and rest. Each service combines soothing, meditative touch and carefully curated sensory elements to help your body feel safe and let go.

Who is Ritual Massage for?

For anyone who needs care and holding, especially those who are overwhelmed, overworked, worn down, numbed out, grieving, living with chronic pain or illness, depression, anxiety, or C-PTSD, or struggling to feel well in their body or life.

Many of my regular clients are caregivers, healthcare providers, teachers, service workers, and others who must keep showing up day after day no matter what.

What is trauma-informed massage therapy?

Trauma-informed massage therapy isn’t a specific technique. It’s a way of being in relationship with you and the intelligence of your nervous system. It’s rooted in awareness, consent and deep listening. It’s about cultivating systems, environments and offerings that let you experience more safety and more choice.

What kind of massage services do you provide?

I offer Swedish, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), Hot Stone, CBD, Aromatherapy, Prenatal, and my own Signature Massage, as well as limited Seasonal Massage Rituals.

To enhance your massage, you may add:

- full-body Dry Brush Exfoliation
- the Crown Ritual (ASMR-style face/scalp massage and hair play)
- the Root Ritual (coffee + walnut shell foot scrub and reflexology)

I do not offer full-body deep tissue massage, sports massage, cupping, or scraping.

WHAT IS ASMR?

ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) is a calming sensation some people experience with certain sensory triggers. It can help settle the nervous system and deepen relaxation. If requested, I may incorporate very light fingertip touch, back scratches, gentle face massage, or hair play.

What is a massage with you like?

Each session is responsive to what you bring and what your body needs that day. The pacing is dynamic and the tone is tender. The space is confidential and judgment-free.

You are cocooned in warmth. Soft sheets, just-right weighted blankets, low light, carefully curated scent and soundscapes. My touch is intentional, circular, wave-like. Like water moving around stone.

My massage style is ceremonial, dance-like, melting, embracing, sensual.

What if I don’t like something?

Consent is ongoing. Before we begin, we discuss your needs, boundaries, preferences, and where your body is not open to touch.

You can request changes to pressure, pace, communication, lighting, temperature, music, or areas of touch at any time. You may pause or stop for any reason.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

No. There is no required level of undressing. You may remain fully clothed or undress to your comfort level.

You will always be properly draped (covered with a sheet and light blanket), with only the area being worked uncovered. Private areas are never exposed.

What parts of my body will be massaged?

A full-body massage may include your back, arms, hips, glutes, legs, feet, hands, shoulders, neck, chest (from sternum to collar-bone), scalp, and face.

You decide what areas are included/excluded, before or during the session, and you never need to explain why.

*Please note: I do not ever touch genitals or the inside of the mouth.

What should I do during the massage?

If you can, just let yourself be heavy and held. Held by the table, by the room, by my hands.

I may gently guide your body at times—lifting a foot, turning a hand, tilting your head. You don’t need to anticipate or try to help me.

If something needs to change, say so. We’ll adjust.

What if I’m feeling self-conscious about my body?

Your body is not a problem and does not need to earn the right to be touched. I work with real human bodies in all their forms—soft, scarred, aging, aching, asymmetrical, ill, healing. All are welcome here.

How will I feel after my massage?

You may feel sleepy, calm, alert, clear, or simply more present in your body. Some notice relief of pain, softened tension, or a deeper awareness of breath and sensation.

How often should I receive massage?

As often as feels supportive and within your resources. Some clients come once for relief; others come monthly or every other week. Regular massage sessions can help the body learn it’s safe to soften and rest.

I’m here for you when you’re ready.
